 George Metanias has been a Village Trustee since 2005 and is running for Mayor of Mokena for the first time. He is running with the "Friends of Mokena" slate with candidates for Trustee and Clerk. Frank Fleischer has been the Village President of Mokena since 2013. He is running for re-election with a group of candidates as the "Mokena's Future" slate.  The Summit Hill 161 School District, serving parts of Mokena, Frankfort, and Tinley Park, has been in the spotlight due to school closings, transportation challenges, and other key issues. With 10 candidates running for the school board, transparency is more important than ever.  Amy Berk, Patrick Oliphant, Adrian Chavez, Ronnie Petrey, and Melissa Ryan—reached out after seeing our candidate interviews to request to share about their campaign. Katie Carley - Mokena 159 School Board Candidate

Meet Katie, a candidate for the Mokena 159 Elementary School District Board! As a dedicated mom with two children in 159 schools, a Master’s degree from Lewis University, and a career as a social worker, she brings a valuable perspective to the table.

I had the chance to sit down with Katie to discuss her vision for the school board, including how she hopes to strengthen communication and enhance our schools. 

Jim Andresen - Mokena 159 School Board Candidate

 Jim and his wife, Jaymie, have lived in Mokena since 2007, raising their three children in District 159 schools. A Mokena native and graduate of Mokena Jr. High and Lincoln-Way, Jim works as a Financial Representative with Country Financial and has served the community as past President of the Mokena Lions Club, current President of the Mokena Burros, and both President and Vice President of the Mokena School District 159 Board.

Friends of MOKENA SLATE - MEET THE CANDIDATE NIGHT 2/20/2025

 Tuesday night, February 20th, Trustee George Metanias and the Friends of Mokena slate hosted their first candidate meet and greet at Stoney Point Grill. The candidates responded to the criticism from their opponents as well as shared what they hope to do in the Village.  If you missed this one, there are two more planned.  Mayor Frank Fleischer and his Mokena‘s future Slate hosted their second candidate meet and greet on Tuesday, February 19. The mayor had harsh words for his opponents and they shared what the and his trustee candidates want to see for our village.

 This is a quick update on the Mokena local elections that take place on April 1, 2025! Both campaigns for Mayor and Village Board are going full force!   

Deadra Stokes - Lincolnway 210 High school district

 Deadra Stokes and her husband, Paul, have three daughters and live in Frankfort. Along with being a member of the Lincolnway 210 High School Board, she is an attorney, the Chief Commissioner of The Police and Fire Board for the Village of Frankfort and more!  Deadra doesn't have a challenger this election but she was still nice enough to sit down with me.  Get to know her and what she brings to our High School District.   Enjoy this conversation with my friend, Deadra Stokes!

Aaron Janik - Lincolnway 210 High school district

Aaron Janik is the current President of the Lincolnway 210 School Board. He lives in Mokena with his wife Molly and their three kids. He is running unopposed this election but still sat with me to talk about the school district and himself.  Enjoy this conversation with my friend, Aaron Janik!

Israel talks with Supervisor Nick George, who is running unopposed this election cycle, to discuss the valuable services Frankfort Township offers to residents. Mokena's Future Slate -Meet The Candidate Night 2/4/2025

This is was the first candidate meet and greet for the Village Board and Mayoral races. Mayor Frank Fleischer's "Mokena's Future" slate provided a spread of coffee, pastires and a chance to hear from their candidates.  When I planned to attend this event I thought I could put a quick set of clips together but the Mayor and his slate, for the first time, laid out their plans as well as talked about their opponents and how they differ. I thought it was worth including the whole event. 

Mokena 159 Teachers Association Endorsement

The Mokena Teachers Association released their endorsement for the upcoming election. Israel sat down with two of the teachers that are part of the MTA to find out more about the process and the candidates they chose this year.

In this video Israel explains the role that Mokena's Front Porch Podcast will play in the upcoming local elections on April 1, 2025.  Local politics have always been a significant part of our historical records and the people who step up to run for these rolls are usually active in their community. Our podcast hopes to be a conversation point for these elections. This video explains more about that and also provides the first update on the election.

Mayor frank fleischer - Candidate for mayor

Israel sat down with Mayor Frank Fleischer and Mrs. Laurie Fleischer to talk about their life in Mokena. The Mayor told us in August that he does intend to run for another term as Mayor.  Get to know the Mayor and Mrs. Fleischer, in a kitchen table conversation. This was not a politically based conversation but keep your eyes out for our candidate interview with Mayor Fleischer soon!
